Bob Hope’s former Palm Springs home seeks $1.5 million

A Palm Springs home once owned by legendary comedian Bob Hope and his wife, Dolores, has come to the market for $1.495 million.
The 2,943-square-foot California Ranch-style completed in 1935 and recently remodeled includes five bedrooms and seven bathrooms and sits on more than a third-acre with an oversized swimming pool.
Inside, floor-to-ceiling glass walls frame views of the grounds.
A large retractable awning shades the poolside deck. Mature hedges and fruit trees surround the park-like double-lot, which boasts a casita with a private entrance.
The main house has an open floor plan with Schumacher and Cole and Son wallpapers on the living and dining rooms’ walls.
Other highlights of the house on E. El Alameda include a breakfast area, updated kitchen and laundry area.
There’s also a two-car garage.

Hope, who died in 2003 at age 100, made his mark on stage, radio, and big and small screens. The “Road” films made from the 1940s to the early-’60s with Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour “helped to establish Mr. Hope as a major film personality in his own right,” read the New York Times in the entertainer’s obituary published on July 28, 2003. For nearly 50 years, he traveled the world to put on USO shows for the military.
Born Leslie Townes Hope in Eltham, England, the comedian and his wife arrived in Palm Springs as his career was taking off in the late 1930s.
The Hopes purchased their first desert home in 1941. In 1946, they bought this second home as a wall plaque on the property recounts. The house sold in 2013 for $725,000, property records show.
In 1980, the couple moved into the newly built circular behemoth designed by modernist architect John Lautner. As previously reported in the Press-Enterprise, investor Ron Burkle bought the 23,000-plus-square-foot mansion in November 2016 for $13 million
