SALT LAKE CITY–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices today announced the winner of its “Love Your Home” Sweepstakes held in conjunction with HGTV and its popular “Good Bones” home-renovation show. Aaron Zimmerman, a Sandy, Utah, resident, was drawn for the $50,000 grand prize from nearly 5.7 million sweepstakes entrants.

“I got goose bumps and immediately thought about paying off bills and maybe buying a house.”

The entrant total set a record for Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices sweepstakes held in conjunction with HGTV, and was 77% above last year’s sweepstakes registrations. “This is a life changer for me and my family,” said Zimmerman, who with wife Kathryn is raising a 4-year-old son in the suburbs south of Salt Lake City.
Zimmerman, who was at work when he learned of the prize, said he first let the sweepstakes call roll to voice mail because he didn’t recognize the number. When he returned the call, “About all I heard was ‘we are excited to inform you’ and ‘$50,000,’” he said with a laugh. “I got goose bumps and immediately thought about paying off bills and maybe buying a house.”
He quickly texted Kathryn, who was skeptical of a practical joke by her husband. “It took me two full days to realize we’d won $50,000,” she said. “I always believed the universe had something better for my family and this is a great start to our future. It encourages us to move forward and dream a little.”
The Zimmermans want a home with a big backyard for their son, who has moderate autism spectrum disorder. “I can picture the home in my mind: four bedrooms, 2,200 square feet and a safe yard for our boy to run and play with our dogs,” Aaron Zimmerman said. “I smile just thinking about it.”
“We’re elated to present our grand prize to the Zimmermans,” said Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices CEO Gino Blefari. “The family has big dreams and in some small way Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices is a part of it.”
Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices and its franchisee in the market, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Utah Properties, presented the sweepstakes check to the Zimmermans today at the brokerage’s Old Mill office in Salt Lake City. In addition, the two organizations contributed in the Zimmerman’s name to the Utah Parent Center for its ongoing support of families impacted by autism spectrum disorder.
“We congratulate the Zimmerman family and wish them well in the future,” said Steve Roney, CEO and owner of Utah Properties. “We are so happy for our sweepstakes winners.”
Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices launched the Love Your Home Sweepstakes in March as part of its national advertising campaign that included TV spots airing in spring. Through the network’s agreement with HGTV, “Good Bones” stars Mina Starsiak and Karen E Laine appeared in vignettes featuring “Good to Know” home design and renovation tips airing on HGTV and Scripps Networks Interactive digital properties.
The sweepstakes also generated 12 weekly winners of $2,500 apiece. They included: Michael Michalski, Union City, N.J.; Steven Michael Skinner, Melbourne, AR; Sandra Broadway, Missouri, TX; Jennifer Overturf, Norfolk, IA; Christina Bonforte, West Long Beach, N.J.; Alice Scroggins, Harrison, AR; David Willis, Evan Mills, N.Y.; Neal Teachau, Cynthiana, KY; Donna Pfeifer, Farmingville, KY; Jessica Wright, Tucson, AZ; Sun Wickiser, Roswell, GA; and Paula Wood, Dunkirk, MD.
